Joining The Metropolis Projects_Details

Tue May 12, 2009, 2:36 PM
The purpose of The Metropolis Project is basically to get together people who like the 1927 silent movie by Fritz Lang. It's easy to join. And if you like the film and the story in general like me it'll be worth it. It's early days but once up and running I will be hosting projects, contests, discussions but mainly I will be trying to get together a devoted team to create an artistic and complete version of the movie using various stlyes and talents.

IMPORTANT: THIS IS ONLY FOR PEOPLE WHO APPRECIATE THE 1927 SILENT FILM BY FRITZ LANG. THE ANIME MOVIE WON'T BE COVERED HERE AS I BELIEVE IT TO

So, to join:

1. Send us a note stating why you'd like to join and linking to a work or works you've done on Metropolis.

2. If you're accepted as a member we'll devWATCH you and also fav ALL works you've done on METROPOLIS and will continue to do so for as long as you're a member.

NOTE: ONLY MEMBERS WILL BE DEVWATCHED BY METROPOLIS PROJECT BUT ANYONE CAN DEVWATCH US (OBVIOUSLY)

It's recommended you devWATCH us if you're a member. Goes without saying really but still.

Invitations may also be offered to anyone who is obviously a devout fan with similiar tastes. This may be done by comment but mainly this will be done by note.

The Metropolis Project is a community developed for fans of the film critics hail as the "most original sci-fi film ever made". It's story off the screen was just as eventful as on it. Almost immediately after the full 2 hour 35 min premiere was sin Germany, Paramount pictures demanded it be cut for its American release and hired a hack to do this. The result was 80 minutes and impossible to follow. Large gaps of important plots and great controversial scenes such as Corruption and Yoshiwara -The Seven Deadly Sins were removed. Before the year had ended Fritz Land announced that these scenes had been forever lost and his true Metropolis would never be seen by anyone again.

The ruined version is what I first saw and after finding out there was more I scoured the internet to see the rest of what I saw as a masterpiece (even in its cut version) and after I saw the full film I was completely in love.

So I looked for a Metropolis fan club here on dA and could only find a multitude of fans for the anime production (what's new on dA) in 2001 by Tesuka. He, however, never saw the 1927 film and got his idea from only the poster so it's nothing like the REAL Metroplis. Not saying the anime is bad (as yet I haven't seen it and have heard mixed things). I just think a true piece of art, lost and then found by it film-goer fans should be now found here, by it's artistic fans.

If you join me in this view...send me a note and ask to join.

Well when I first started visiting the official site there were a lot of cool movie stills and such...now it seems limited and more tuned to selling the remastered DVD.
Any hoo that's where I was able to get my references for my Metropolis sketch:)
:iconmetropolisproject:
